Do not forget!
Happy New Year 2008 to all of you! What a year: "Schulaufgabe" - "Facharbeit" - final exams ("Abitur")!
Just a reminder: for "Schulaufgabe" you must be prepared (1) to answer questions on the text, (2) to translate the passage from an English original text into proper German, and to answer (3) an overall questions!
(1) Topics are South Africa - AIDS/HIV (Have a close look at 1st challenge and fulfill assignments there!). You must prove your background knowledge (one or two questions will refer to that).
(2) Quite obvious ..., isn't it?
(3) Remember, this overall question (task to write about something) will require preparation. You must know about South Africa & AIDS/HIV + Nkosi Johnson (1st challenge) and, of course, accumulate at least some knowledge about 2nd and 3rd challenge. This is something you can prepare, so it is up to you to gain credits in this field (about 20 cr.).
Do not forget abot working on "Facharbeit". One aspect of getting full credits for it is to meet prerequisites your teacher puts up for you (deadline, showing him your progress, asking him questions, prove that you worked on your "Facharbeit" regularly and continuously). However, I do not see any problems for most of you, although a few people do not stick to these rules ... :-(
You still have the chance of presenting your ideas to the class in order to get helpful feedback (remember , for instance, Kathrin, Dennis, and Tanja). Till Friday, January 18, 2008, you have the opportunity to present a table of content and ask the othere questions in class!
Final exams ... no let's not talk about them today ...

In addition, Jacob Zuma may be charged of corruption in the near future (BBC News 20/12/2007), so that the race for the leading position of the powerful ANC will be open again.

3rd challenge - World Cup 2010
The world will look at South Africa in 2010 when the rainbow nation is hosting the next soccer world championship. An event of that dimension entails a lot of problems but it offers several opportunities, too. Find out about what the World Cup 2010 implicates for South Africa, and what South Africa should do to make the championship a full success such as this TV commercial ("2010 World Cup TV Commercial"; 1:00 Min.) tells us?
Find out about the importance of the 2010 World Cup for South Africa not only as far as sports are concerned but for its social, cultural, political, and economical future. You may wish to start with BBC's coverage (BBC News Online) and then find your own way through the Internet. But be alert: there are some pages that look official (and claim to be FIFA sites) but are actually commercial.
Assignment:
Write a comment (150-200 words) in which you prove your background knowlegde, evaluate the data (problems and opportunities), and come to a logical conclusion.
